Bridal Makeup Practice

Makeup practices take place at my home in Leighton Buzzard. I'm purely a makeup artist so don't do hair but I have hairdressers that I can recommend who I've worked with many times and whose work is beautiful.

I recommend a practice is normally done 6/8 weeks before the wedding day. By this time you should know how you are wearing your hair, what accessories you have and what your colour scheme is. These are all things that help us decide what style and colours of make-up we are going to use. If you wish to have a practice sooner than this then that's absolutely fine with me too.

A practice must be carried out on a bride as the products used on you must be tested to check that you have no sensitivities to them. The practice is ideally done in daylight as it enables you to see my work properly - artificial light is not ideal but if we do lose the light I have a professional studio light to simulate daylight. I must work in daylight on your wedding day because if makeup works well in daylight then it will look good in any light and most importantly in your photographs. Don't worry if you're getting ready in a hotel room or house without good lighting as I always bring my professional makeup light with me.

Once we have had a chat about how you would like to look on the wedding day and decided on styles and colours I will apply your practice makeup using professional products and tricks of the trade that mean that your makeup will stay flawless and comfortable for hours! I am trained in photographic makeup so I won't use any products that will flashback and look 'ghostlike' on camera. The makeup will look as stunning on camera as it does in the flesh. Any adjustments will be made until you are 100% happy.

I will take professional quality photographs so you can see just how your makeup will look in your wedding photos. I will also make notes of products and techniques used on you. This enables me to reproduce the look exactly on your wedding day. We will work out timings for the wedding day and I'll leave you with paperwork detailing my arrival and finish times and a schedule for makeup so the wedding morning runs like clockwork!

Wedding Day Makeup

I will visit you at home or at your wedding venue on your wedding day at the time agreed at the practice. I will recreate the look achieved at the practice. After the makeup has been applied I will provide you with enough lipstick and powder for touch ups during the day. I'm very used to working alongside hairdressers - even ones I've not met before ! I'd prefer to work on the bride second to last so she's got time to go and start getting her dress on with enough time to not feel rushed. There's something psychological about being last for a bride...it makes her feel like she's running late!

I'm happy to work on other members of the bridal party without a previous practice, if they're happy with that. I've worked on 1000's of faces over the years so instinctively know what makeup will suit. Anyone who I work on for the first time on the wedding day will be given enough lipstick for touch ups during the day.
